The first update for Silent Hill 2 Remake is released. This patch fixed number of high profile bugs and gameplay issues while further improving performance.

Silent Hill 2 Remake was first announced in late 2022, and finally made it’s launch in October 8 and already hit 1 million copies sold in it’s first release week. Fans of the original game were initially skeptical of Bloober Team’s part in the remake, as the 2001 title was developed by Konami’s Team Silent and considered by many to be one of the greatest games ever made. These fears have proven to be unfounded, with 94% of critics currently recommending the game on OpenCritic and sales continuing to climb.

Due to some performance issues, a patch must be released for Silent Hill 2 Remake and it happened today. Bloober Team has released Update 1.04 for fix these issues.

Following the monumental success of the survival horror game, Bloober Team wants to remake more Silent Hill games, and is also open to developing entirely new titles in the long running series. While there are no concrete plans for the future of Silent Hill just yet, fans are eager to see the first game in the series remade for modern hardware, while more underrated titles like Silent Hill 4, Origins, or Downpour could also find new life and new fans in the future.

Technical:

  • Reduced visual glitches when using the latest version of NVIDIA DLSS.
  • Added an option to enable DLSS frame generation in the menu when using DLSS for supersampling.
  • NVIDIA Reflex is now active when DLSS frame generation is enabled.
  • Added support for AMD FSR 3.1.1.
  • Added an option to enable AMD Fluid Motion Frames in the menu when using FSR 3.1 for supersampling.
  • Updated Intel Nanites to support upcoming driver updates.
  • Improved performance and optimization for Steam Deck.
  • Fixed stuttering issues related to sky map generation.
  • Added an option to enable/disable HZB culling to fix stuttering on some AMD/Intel GPUs.
  • All graphic settings are now saved locally.
  • Added seamless controller switching for Steam Deck.

Gameplay:

  • Removed UFO sound at Soul Street Apartments indicating an investigation of the Blue Gem.
  • Fixed an issue where investigating the Blue Gem on the rooftop did not count towards the UFO ending.
  • Fixed translation issues for UI “High” preset.
  • Resolved an issue where the wooden plank disappeared from James’s body during the death animation.
  • Fixed environment loading issues when staring at walls in the Grand Market.
  • Resolved teleportation issue when interacting with the wrong side of the peephole.
  • Fixed window frame issue at Neely’s Bar, where James got stuck.
  • Addressed the issue of accessing an inaccessible balcony in Blue Creek Apartments.
  • Improved Abstract Daddy boss behavior and fixed related audio issues.
  • Fixed visual and audio discrepancies in Abstract Daddy’s TV interaction.
  • Corrected a question mark from the Conference Room after obtaining the Cinderella figurine.
  • Resolved collision detection issues with Dayroom walls in Brookhaven Hospital.
  • Fixed James’s reflection not appearing in a broken mirror.
  • Corrected James falling under the map near Laura’s entrance to Brookhaven Hospital.
  • Removed debug numbers from Blue Creek Apartments’ Clock Room.
  • Resolved issue where James could not leave the 3F corridor in the Lakeview Hotel.
  • Fixed the indestructible lightbulb on the 3rd floor of Blue Creek Apartments.
  • Removed a small coffee table that blocked James in Woodside Apartments.
  • Fixed progression issues with the Disgust Path in the Labyrinth.
  • Improved Spider Mannequins’ behavior when attacking James.
  • Added more natural weapon switching movements for James.
  • Resolved triggering issues with the Spider Mannequin event in the Labyrinth’s Fear Path.
  • Improved item pickups during the final boss fight.
  • Fixed overlapping picture frames in the Moth Room.
  • Improved deformation of Nurses’ skirts.
  • Fixed NewGame+ unlock message not displaying in the player’s chosen language.
