Some Players Will be Able to Claim Dying Light: The Beast For Free

Developer Techland has revealed that players who own Dying Light 2: Ultimate Edition will be able to get Dying Light: The Beast for free.

Free Dying Light: The Beast For Players

The Beast, which is a new, standalone entry in the Dying Light series, was shown to the world for the very first time during Gamescom 2024. According to Techland, who spoke to GameRant shortly after the game’s reveal, The Beast was initially supposed to be a DLC for Dying Light 2, but an unexpected leak caused the studio to pivot its project into a full title that will bring back Kyle Crane, the iconic protagonist from the original Dying Light. While Techland now considers The Beast to be Dying Light 3, the project’s surprising journey from Dying Light 2 DLC to a fully fledged game hasn’t prevented Techland from staying true to its word, as Dying Light 2: Ultimate Edition owners will still be receiving The Beast for free.

Some Players Will be Able to Claim Dying Light: The Beast For Free

Shortly after The Beast’s worldwide reveal last year, Techland swiftly delisted Dying Light 2’s Ultimate Edition, as owners of the more expensive edition will be granted access to The Beast for no additional cost. Although this was announced with the game’s reveal, Techland has reiterated its plans to gift The Beast to those who already own the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2. In a new post on Reddit (spotted by TheGamer), Techland said that “all owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will receive Dying Light: The Beast at no additional cost.” The studio goes on to explain that the game will automatically appear in players’ libraries once it is released on August 22.

Techland also recently revealed the pre-order bonuses for Dying Light: The Beast, which has also led to some confusion about how players who are receiving the game for free would also obtain the pre-order bonuses. Thankfully, the studio has also clarified this in its new Reddit post. “All owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will get the Hero of Harran bundle at no extra cost, no action necessary,” Techland said. Once the game is released on August 22, players who receive the game for free will also have immediate access to The Beast’s pre-order bonuses, which consist of various in-game weapons, a patrol vehicle, and an exclusive outfit for Kyle Crane.

Although the studio considers The Beast to be Dying Light 3, fans of the game’s predecessor don’t need to worry, as the 2025 roadmap for Dying Light 2 confirms that it will continue to receive new updates, at least for the remainder of the year. Dying Light 2 players can still look forward to three new events for 2025, including a Summer event, a Halloween event, and the Winter Tales event. Techland has also confirmed that a new update for Dying Light 2 will be released in the Fall, but the contents of the patch are currently unknown.
