Sonic Has Never Looked This Scary
Before the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released in 2020, the character’s design received a huge backlash on social media and was nicknamed “Ugly Sonic.” However, new test footage has now emerged, revealing that there was another design that was canceled at the time, and that it looked much more terrifying. Shared on Twitter by a user named “Doctor Caboose,” these images reveal what Paramount was planning in the first place.
A Worse Version Overshadowed by “Ugly Sonic”
The images in question show Sonic’s never-before-seen prototype design. The person who shared the footage stated that he watched the footage during a job he worked on in the past and is now sharing it anonymously. The images he published clearly show that the character is even more disturbing than his previous designs.
The first “Ugly Sonic” design received a huge backlash with the trailer released in 2019. Paramount and director Jeff Fowler then decided to redesign the character, which caused the film’s release date to be postponed. The new design received positive feedback and was a success at the box office.
However, these test images that emerged show that Paramount may have taken a much worse path from the beginning. Many details, from eye structure to facial expression, shocked Sonic fans. The user who shared the post says that videos will come in the coming days and the details will be clearer.
The Sonic series, which has achieved great success with three movies and a TV series today, almost went through a major image crisis in the past. These newly leaked images remind us that even “Ugly Sonic” is actually more harmless.
