Just 10 Video Game Series Made $15 Billion on the PlayStation Store Last Year

With a staggering $29.6 billion in revenue in FY23, PlayStation is the gaming world’s largest platform in terms of revenue. While more than 9,000 games were purchased on the PlayStation Store during that time, PlayStation gamers spent the bulk of their money on fewer than a dozen game franchises. According to Sony’s latest Game and Network Services annual segment report, just 10 video game franchises accounted for 51% of total revenues in FY23. These games, some of which are single titles like Genshin Impact and Fortnite, generated nearly $15 billion in revenue during that period.

Top Winning Games and Series

These games are live service offerings with powerful microtransaction options and are often referred to as “forever games” or “black hole games” by analysts and experts. Below is the list of these revenue-generating games that have earned Sony’s PlayStation brand $15 billion. Note that the games and series are not listed in any particular order by revenue. If they were, Call of Duty and Fortnite would undoubtedly be at the top, followed by annual sports franchises like NBA 2K and Madden NFL. Another note: $15 billion in sales is a mix of both full game sales and microtransaction spending.
