Sony Santa Monica studio, known for the God of War series, seems to be working on a new IP. This information comes from a new project mentioned by a developer working at the studio on his LinkedIn page.

Sony Santa Monica is Working on a New IP: Developer Shares Details

In a LinkedIn profile spotted by ResetEra user Angie, a developer at Sony Santa Monica talked about the new IP while sharing his work experiences. “Santa Monica Studios offered me the opportunity to come back as a Character Supervisor on their new IP taking care of the entire Character Development pipeline, so here I am, excited to be back, working with the team again and pushing Characters together in video games,” the developer wrote. This suggests that the studio is working on a new game outside of the God of War series.

Sony Santa Monica’s creative director Cory Barlog has been rumored to be working on a new space-themed IP for years. This news first surfaced in 2019, but there has been no official announcement since then. Barlog’s current poster photo on Twitter is a parody of a panel from The Watchmen depicting him in space, which adds to the speculation. This new IP reference on LinkedIn raises the possibility of something unrelated to God of War happening.

God of War Series May Continue

It’s also possible that Sony Santa Monica is working on another God of War game. Back in April, the team was hiring new developers and it was mentioned that knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok was a bonus skill for those joining the team.

At the moment, Santa Monica Studio is not ready to reveal the project it is working on. Now that God of War Ragnarok’s DLC and PC port are complete, we’ll have to wait and see if the team will finally reveal one of the projects they’re working on.
