The release date for the highly anticipated new game South of Midnight from We Happy Few developer Compulsion Games has been announced. According to the information shared at the Xbox Developer Direct event, the game will meet players on April 8, 2025. The game, which will be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms, will also be added to the Xbox Game Pass library. More details about the dark and impressive world of the game were shared with the new trailer.
South of Midnight: A Dark Southern Tale
South of Midnight combines mythological elements specific to the American South and a neo-gothic atmosphere. The game invites players to an alternative American Deep South setting. In the story, the main character named Hazel fights creatures called “Haints” using her magic weaving abilities and other magical tools. These creatures represent a corruption affecting the environment and the world, and players must complete various puzzles and tasks to solve this corruption.
In the latest trailer, a character named Huggin’ Molly stands out. Described as a spider woman, Molly wears a quilt dress made of children’s clothes and creates spider webs with red threads. While Molly’s story is told through different narratives among the townspeople, this character adds a mystical depth to the game. In addition, other mythological creatures such as a shape-shifting owl wolf named Rougarou were also seen in the trailer.
South of Midnight also draws attention with its impressive stop-motion style animations and atmospheric art. Compulsion Games stated that it carried out detailed work to create this unique style. The game’s story and characters are based on folkloric narratives of the American south and aim to offer players a rich experience.
South of Midnight seems to make a big splash with both its story and visuals when it is released on April 8, 2025. This new project by Compulsion Games has already managed to become one of the most anticipated games of the year with its mythological depth and striking world.
