SPARK! PHOTON BLAST Announced for PS5 and PC
As Tokyo Game Show 2025 approaches, surprise announcements continue to arrive. Japanese developer DESIGN ACT has officially unveiled its new game, SPARK! PHOTON BLAST, which combines sports and action elements. Set for release in 2026, the game has already attracted attention with both its concept and gameplay mechanics.
SPARK! PHOTON BLAST Details
According to information shared on the game’s official website, SPARK! PHOTON BLAST is based on a virtual emotion projectile system called “SPARK!”, which aims to transform suppressed emotions into action. Players will attempt to convey their emotions by shooting energetic spheres called “photon spheres” at each other in a virtual reality space.
The story takes place in a dystopian future where human contact has been severed by a virus and emotions have been suppressed. In this world, the SPARK system, developed for the salvation of humanity, is activated. Players can choose different characters to progress their stories, unlock new avatar items, and experience multiple scenarios.
Gameplay-wise, SPARK! PHOTON BLAST takes place in a virtual space surrounded by four walls. Players use reflexes and strategy to send photon spheres into their opponents’ goal. The ball bounces back when it hits the wall and gains power with successive shots. If it is caught and hit three times in a row, “SPARK!!” mode is activated, leaving the opponent defenseless. This moment stands out as one of the most crucial moves in the game.
The game isn’t limited to fast-paced, sports-like challenges. It also offers variety with customizable characters, different effects, and story modes. This allows players to experience a deep content experience in both competitive matches and single-player experiences.
SPARK! PHOTON BLAST will be playable for the first time at the Indie Game Corner section of the Tokyo Game Show, which will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba from September 25-28, 2025. This event will be the game’s most important test before it reaches the masses. With a 2026 release, it’s expected to offer a unique take on the sports-action genre.
