Split Fiction Made a Great Start

Split Fiction reached the top of the UK physical game sales chart less than a week after its release.

Hazelight’s latest effort has been a remarkable success, not only for the studio itself but for its parent company. By reaching a 91 on Metacritic, Split Fiction broke a 13-year-old dry spell for EA, which hadn’t published a title that received a 90 or above since Mass Effect 3 came out in 2012. Now that sales figures are starting to come in from the game’s first calendar week on the market, it looks like it’s made an impression on gamers, not just critics.

According to Push Square, Split Fiction became the number one selling physical game in the UK for the week ending on March 8, 2025. That’s a big feat for any title, but it’s all the more impressive considering the game had only been out for a few days by the end of that reporting period. In taking the top spot, Split Fiction also managed to dethrone Monster Hunter Wilds in the region. With over eight million copies sold in its first three days, Wilds is the fastest-selling game in Capcom history, so it’s looking like Split Fiction has a big year ahead.

It’s worth noting that these sales figures don’t include digital copies, so it’s unclear if Hazelight was able to topple Monster Hunter in terms of all sales or if that only applies to disc versions. Still, Split Fiction surpassed 197,000 concurrent players on Steam in its first 24 hours, so its digital sales are likely also doing fairly well. As far as console sales go, PlayStation users seem to have taken a particular liking to the game. According to the Push Square report, PS5 copies accounted for 89% of Split Fiction’s physical sales in the UK.
