Star Wars Outlaws Comes with a Special Mode to Solve the Yellow Paint Controversy
The Star Wars Outlaws team has found a solution to the long-standing ‘yellow paint’ debate in video games. This debate is about the markings in games that show players where to go next. Outlaws will have a special mode to address this issue.
Star Wars Outlaws’ Solution to the Yellow Paint Controversy in Games
Many video games use yellow paint or brightly colored markers to give players directions. For example, yellow or white scratches on the edge of a cliff, yellow drainpipes on a building, or yellow markers on windows indicate where players should go. These markers are considered a useful accessibility tool for many players.
Star Wars Outlaws offers a similar pathfinder system, but the difference is that players have the option to disable it. The feature offers a similar experience to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, released in 2018. The game allowed you to independently set the difficulty for puzzles, traversals and battles. When you set the traversal to easy mode, white markers would appear on the path Lara needed to take. However, when you increased the difficulty level, these markers disappeared.
Star Wars Outlaws’ Explorer Mode
To resolve this controversy, Star Wars Outlaws is coming with ‘Explorer Mode’, which will give players the option to choose their guiding experience. This mode allows players to play the game with less obvious landmarks, making progression more challenging.
