Steven Spielberg Expected for Gremlins 3
The cult fantasy-comedy series Gremlins has returned to the spotlight after 35 years. According to statements from Zach Galligan, one of the series’ lead actors, a script for Gremlins 3 has finally been developed. While Warner Bros. is showing strong interest in the project, the continuation of the project is currently awaiting only one approval: Steven Spielberg. The legendary producer’s reading of the script and greenlighting it could officially pave the way for a third film.
The Script for Gremlins 3 is Ready, and It’s Spielberg’s Turn
1984’s Gremlins and its 1990 sequel, The New Batch, were among the most remarkable productions of their time. Over the decades, fans have held out hope for a third film, and it appears those expectations have finally been met.
Zach Galligan stated at Comic-Con Manchester that the script is being seriously considered by Warner Bros. and is currently on Steven Spielberg’s desk. Galligan also stated that the success of Beetlejuice influenced this decision.
While it’s not yet clear who wrote the script, past statements from original Gremlins screenwriter Christopher Columbus are noteworthy. Columbus has stated that the characters and universe are still “in his DNA,” suggesting that his influence could be seen in the third film.
This project, revived after years of discussion, has excited both nostalgic audiences and new generations. If Spielberg approves, Gremlins 3 could be a powerful example of the rebirth of classics in modern cinema.
