Subnautica 2 Shares First Gameplay Footage
The star of underwater survival games, Subnautica, is back with its sequel, Subnautica 2. Unknown Worlds shared the first gameplay footage from the long-awaited game with players, accompanied by a developer video. The game, which was announced in 2022 and shown only with a cinematic trailer last year, has finally come out with real in-game scenes. First impressions show that Subnautica 2 will bring a fresh breath to the series with its new world, different biomes, and co-op experience.
A New World and Co-op Experience in Subnautica 2
In the developer update titled “Road to Early Access” published by Unknown Worlds, Subnautica 2 design leader Anthony Gallegos shared small sections from the game’s development process. In the images, a safe area similar to the Safe Shallows region of the first game, underground caves illuminated by bioluminescence, and interesting new underwater creatures attracted attention. Strange creatures with fan-shaped tails and giant fish head-butting rocks offered the first clues about the game’s new ecosystem.
One of the most striking innovations was the co-op mode. The footage showed short scenes of multiple players swimming together and building bases. It was previously announced that Subnautica 2 would be offered with co-op mode, several different biomes, a specific narrative section, and discoverable creatures in its early access version. In addition, the game is planned to continue development in early access for approximately two to three years.
No exact release date has been announced for early access yet. However, Unknown Worlds confirmed that Subnautica 2 will meet players on Xbox Series X/S and PC platforms (via Steam and Epic Games Store) this year and will also be added to the Xbox Game Pass library.
Subnautica 2 promises players a survival experience on a brand new planet, full of completely different biomes and creatures. The idea of exploring the depths of the sea, especially with friends, has already excited fans of the series. We will learn more details about the game with new updates to come in the coming months.
