Superman Movie Age Limit Revealed
An important detail has been clarified regarding James Gunn’s Superman movie, which will mark a new beginning for the DC universe. Gunn, who has previously signed projects that appeal to adult audiences such as Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, seems to be sticking to the PG-13 limit this time. A statement in the toy commercial may have previously revealed the age limit of the movie.
Superman Will Appeal to a Wide Audience with PG-13
In a commercial for the “Superman vs. Kaiju Battle Pack” toy set, the phrase “Superman movie rated PG-13” drew attention. Although the MPAA has not yet officially rated this phrase, it clearly reveals the age limit that Warner Bros. is targeting. In this way, the film is intended to appeal to a wide age group.
James Gunn has previously stated that each project should have an age limit appropriate to its own story. However, he also emphasized that it would be right for Superman to remain at the PG-13 level as a character at the center of DC. Gunn has clearly stated that he wants this film to be a genre that everyone can watch.
Looking back, the Superman films played by Christopher Reeve were rated “PG”. With Superman Returns, which was released in 2006, modern Superman films began to be classified as PG-13. The non-theatrical versions of Batman v Superman and Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, were released with an R rating.
David Corenswet stars in the new Superman film, accompanied by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film aims to draw a portrait of Superman who maintains a balance of action and humor and believes in hope and goodness. The production will be in theaters on July 11, 2025.
