Superman’s Man of Tomorrow Costume Revealed
Superman is returning to the big screen in Man of Tomorrow, set for release in 2027. This sequel, directed by James Gunn, will see the Man of Steel side with his nemesis, Lex Luthor. While not many details about the film are yet known, a new piece of information has revealed a major clue about Superman’s costume.
Superman’s Costume Removed from Warner Bros. Exhibit
The costume used in the films has been on display at the Superman exhibit at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood since May. However, a recent photo shared on Reddit revealed that the costume is no longer on display. In the photo, a note reading “The costume is currently in production use” appears in place of the Superman costume.
This note has resonated strongly with fan communities, as Man of Tomorrow is the DC film currently closest to production. Some users believe this is a preliminary preparation for the film. While filming hasn’t begun yet, the film is in pre-production, and it seems highly likely that the costume department will request the original costume back for stage tests.
Some fans claim that the costume on display could have been taken for another commercial or promotional piece. However, if it is indeed being used for Man of Tomorrow, it could mean that Superman will be wearing the same costume again. This would be unusual in superhero films, as heroes typically re-do their costumes with each new installment.
Even in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man wears a different costume in each film, while in the DC universe, minor design changes were made from Man of Steel to Batman v Superman. If Man of Tomorrow uses the same costume, it would both represent a departure from the traditional superhero formula and indicate that James Gunn wants to maintain Superman’s simple yet hopeful appearance from the first film.
Gunn previously stated that the biggest challenge in costume design was adapting Superman’s classic “red trunks” look to modern cinema. “Superman wants to inspire hope, not fear.
Therefore, he needs to have a colorful, warm, and powerful presence,” Gunn said, emphasizing that the costume is directly connected to the character’s essence. Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. If the rumors are true, Clark Kent’s iconic costume may already be getting ready to take flight once again.
