Switch 2 Dev Kits Not Being Distributed to All Studios

As the countdown continues for Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Switch 2, various rumors are swirling about the distribution of developer kits. Strikerz CEO Eugene Nashilov’s statements revealed that free-to-play studios, in particular, are having difficulty accessing the new hardware. This raises questions about the variety of games coming to the Switch 2.

Switch 2 Kits Aren’t Reaching Every Studio

The Strikerz team couldn’t provide a clear answer to questions about the Switch 2 version of its game, UFL. Nashilov stated that development hasn’t begun because Nintendo hasn’t yet sent kits to free-to-play studios. He believes this approach affects not only their own company but also many F2P developers worldwide. This could lead to a shortage of free games in the new console’s launch library.

Switch 2 Dev Kits Not Being Distributed to All Studios

Strikerz had actually officially placed an order for a dev kit at the beginning of the year. However, despite the passage of time, they have not received any kits. This uncertainty directly impacts the studio’s development schedule, and the timing of UFL’s Switch 2 version remains uncertain.

Rumors circulating at Gamescom suggest that the situation isn’t limited to F2P developers. At the event, it was mentioned that even many major studios don’t yet have Switch 2 kits. It’s suggested that Nintendo is encouraging backward compatibility with existing Switch games during the release period.

UFL is currently playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also scheduled for a PC release in November or December 2025. However, a timeline for the Switch 2 version hasn’t yet been established. With Strikerz and other studios gaining access to development kits, the future of games planned for Nintendo’s new console will become clearer.
