Switch 2 Staple Sold at Auction for $250,000
The “Staplegate” incident, which began with staples being found in Nintendo Switch 2 boxes, has once again made headlines with a rather unusual outcome. GameStop auctioned the famous stapler used in the incident, along with a damaged but repaired console, and the result caused a stir.
Switch 2 Staple Sold with 282 Bids
GameStop’s eBay auction resulted in the sale of the controversial Switch 2 stapler for a staggering $250,000. A total of 282 bids were received, and the bundle included a damaged but repaired Switch 2, its box, and the stapler removed from the box. GameStop’s CEO had promised to add underwear to the collection if bids reached six figures. The company hinted that it had included the item in the bundle.
The incident originated at a GameStop store in Staten Island. While some customers received undamaged Switch 2 cases, others found items punctured by staples. Following outrage, the store replaced the items and decided to use the error for charity. A GameStop spokesperson stated that auctioning the staple was a “logical decision.”
All proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The incident’s tragicomic aspects, as well as its social benefit, attracted attention. This unusual story exemplifies the question of how to turn a wrong move into an opportunity in the gaming world.
