Take-Two Evaluates Civilization 7’s Performance

Civilization 7 received mixed reactions from fans of the series when it launched in early 2025. While player numbers have fallen short of those of Civilization 5 and Civilization 6, hope remains high for the developer and publisher. Take-Two believes the game will recover over time and continue the series’ strong legacy. Criticized at launch for its simplified interface and drastic gameplay changes, Civilization 7 has been gradually improved with updates in recent months. Publisher Take-Two believes this long-standing strategy series will achieve “slow but sustained” success.

Take-Two Confident in Civilization 7

Following the latest financial report, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that Civilization 7 has “reached a much better place” with recent updates. Zelnick stated that the series has maintained its long-term sales performance throughout history and that current projections are still in line with expectations.

Zelnick stated that despite the game’s decline after launch, player interest is steadily increasing. He believes that Civilization 7, like its predecessor, Civilization 6, will be strengthened over time with DLC and additional content. This will solidify the game’s place in the “pantheon of civilizations” in the long run.

Developer Firaxis, however, continues to work on the core structure that has been the focus of criticism. The upcoming 1.2.3 update will introduce improvements to the “Era Transitions” system, making the game’s campaign flow more flexible. This will allow players to tailor in-game configurations to their own preferences.

Following all these steps, it remains to be seen how Civilization 7 will develop in the future. Take-Two believes the game will be successful in the long term, relying on the series’ strong brand value. However, the real test for players will be how much future updates will increase satisfaction.
