The Best Battlefield Games Go Offline
Electronic Arts recently confirmed that a bunch of old Battlefield games will be removed from digital storefronts. Starting July 31st, Battlefield 3 (considered by many to be the best Battlefield game ever), Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline will be unavailable for purchase on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Then, on November 7, the online services for these games will be shut down forever.
Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Hardline Go Offline
While Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 will remain PC-only, Hardline will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC – but not for long. Single-player content will not be affected by this move. Battlefield 3 was released in 2011 to an overwhelmingly positive response, effortlessly competing against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and being what many called “the pinnacle of Battlefield”.
But the online feature of all these titles is about to end. On November 7th, the online servers for Battlefield 3 (along with 4 and Hardline) will be shut down on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This means that Battlefield 3 will – for now – remain playable only on PC. However, given the inevitable and steady decline in the number of players launching the 13-year-old shooter on PC, it’s only a matter of time before Electronic Arts shuts down that service too. This is also expected to affect backwards compatibility – meaning you won’t be able to play Battlefield 3 on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.
