The Dark Tower Won’t Let Stephen King Down

The Dark Tower series, which brings Stephen King’s universe to the screen in all its dimensions, has been one of the projects that fans have wanted to see again for years. The movie, which was released in 2017, failed to meet expectations and put the future of the series at risk. However, Mike Flanagan, who successfully adapted King’s works, continues his work to bring this story to television without slowing down.

The Dark Tower Series Will Last at Least Five Seasons

Mike Flanagan announced last year that he had acquired the television rights to The Dark Tower and stated that he was working on the scripts for the series planned for Amazon Prime Video. Flanagan said that he had prepared a detailed plan and a script that included a pilot episode for the first season. The director, who explained that he set out with a five-season storyline, stated that the opening scene of the novel “Gunslinger” had been on his mind for a long time and that he wanted to finally realize it.

According to Flanagan, there is no concrete production schedule for the project yet. However, this does not mean that the project has been shelved. On the contrary, he describes the process as “building a giant tanker” and emphasizes that they are working on it all the time. He states that Stephen King often asks about the project and is determined not to disappoint him.

The 2017 film only grossed $113 million despite its $66 million budget. This result caused the cancellation of sequels. However, the passing of time has both renewed the expectations of the audience and provided an opportunity to start independently from the previous adaptation.

With the trust and wide fan base he has gained with his Netflix projects, Flanagan aims to present a more comprehensive and faithful adaptation this time. The Dark Tower offers a large universe with its multi-layered structure ranging from dark fantasy to science fiction, from western to horror. In addition, since it is one of the cornerstones of King’s multiverse theory, it is highly likely that we will see characters we know from different novels in this production.
