The First Announcement About The X-Files Reboot Released

The X-Files, a legendary science fiction and mystery film, is returning. Director Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Black Panther and Creed, confirmed that he is working on a reboot of the series. Coogler stated that the project holds a personal significance, adding that they are creating a production that will “do justice” to both original fans and new viewers.

The X-Files Reboot: An Emotional Project

Speaking to Variety, director Ryan Coogler explained that the idea for The X-Files Reboot stemmed from his family. “Just as my dad and Rocky had a special bond, my mom and The X-Files have a special bond,” Coogler said, adding that reviving the series was both a personal and emotional project for him. “My mom means everything to me. She read some of the episodes I wrote and was thrilled. This project means a lot to her, too.”

The First Announcement About The X-Files Reboot Released

Few details are yet known about the new The X-Files series, but rumors circulate that Danielle Deadwyler will star. Coogler has neither confirmed nor denied these claims: “I can’t confirm or deny anything at this time.” He has also remained silent on whether the original series’ legendary stars, Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) and David Duchovny (Fox Mulder), will return.

While the new series’ cast and release date have not been announced, Coogler’s statements suggest it will retain the love and nostalgia of the original series. Coogler emphasized his desire to maintain the spirit of the classic The X-Files, both in terms of atmosphere and character dynamics: “We want to maintain the dark, mysterious, and emotional tone that fans love. But we also intend to draw a new generation into this world.”

The X-Files, created by Chris Carter in 1993, ran for nine seasons, becoming a cult phenomenon. The series’ two feature films—The X-Files (1998) and I Want to Believe (2008)—established it as one of the most iconic franchises in television history. The Coogler-directed reboot aims to revive that legacy with a modern narrative.
