The Longing for Henry Cavill in The Witcher Hasn’t Ended
Hemsworth’s performance, replacing Cavill, who left the series in 2022, became a trending topic on social media after the trailer was released. Scenes from the new season, which Netflix will release on October 30, 2025, sparked a wave of comparisons among viewers. Users on Twitter, in particular, shared humorous posts comparing the two actors’ portrayals of Geralt.
Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt Sparks Controversy
The trailer shows Hemsworth’s Geralt embarking on a new adventure to find Ciri (Freya Allan). He is joined by Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), Jaskier (Joey Batey), and new character Regis (Laurence Fishburne). The ongoing war across the continent and the threat of dark magic suggest that the tone of season 4 will be much more somber than previous seasons.
However, one line in the trailer caught the attention of fans: “The Witcher is in flux. You are becoming something new.” These words, for many viewers, were a symbolic reflection of the transition from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth. Posts on social media included humorous comparisons like “Geralt of Rivia / Geralt of IKEA.”
While some viewers argued that Hemsworth’s younger appearance didn’t fit the series’ darker tone, others argued that the actor needed time. Netflix, however, is emphasizing the character’s theme of “rebirth” to organically integrate this transition into the story.
Eamon Farren, Mimî M. Khayisa, Anna Shaffer, Meng’er Zhang, and Cassie Clare are also returning in the new season. It has also been confirmed that the universe will be expanded with Graham McTavish and new supporting characters.
The Witcher season 4 will follow Ciri, Yennefer, and Geralt as they journey on a war-torn continent. However, as can be seen from the trailer, there is still only one Geralt in the hearts of the audience: Henry Cavill.
