The MultiVersus Adventure Has Officially Ended
MultiVersus, the fighting game that brings together popular brands from Warner Bros., has officially ended its online adventure. The production, which draws attention with its bringing together players with characters from different universes, could not achieve sustainable success despite high expectations. With the closure of the servers, MultiVersus will only be playable in offline mode, which has caused serious disappointment, especially among players who invested in the game.
MultiVersus Servers Permanently Closed
MultiVersus, which was brought to life with an investment of approximately $200 million from Warner Bros., has been removed from all digital stores as of May 30 and its online servers have been closed. The game will continue to be accessible in offline mode only for users who log in after February 4. This development has been met with great backlash, especially among players who purchased the $99.99 founder’s pack.
The game, released in July 2022, initially attracted more than 150,000 concurrent players. However, interest waned over time and MultiVersus was closed for almost a year. The game, which was restarted at the end of May 2024, had its fifth and final season before ending permanently.
The game, which added new characters such as DC character Aquaman and Lola Bunny from the Looney Tunes universe to its cast in its final season, tried to gain interest again with some gameplay improvements. Updates such as a faster combat system and movement mechanics created a short-term excitement, but they did not provide long-term continuity.
After the game ended, Tony Huynh from the development team made a statement apologizing to the players. Huynh stated that the production could not achieve sustainable success despite all its efforts, and stated that MultiVersus was a learning experience for them.
