The Outer Worlds 2 Price Dropped
A surprising development has occurred in the eagerly awaited The Outer Worlds 2, a game from Obsidian Entertainment. The price of the game has been reduced from $80 to $70 by Microsoft’s decision. It has been announced that refunds and price difference arrangements will be made for those who previously purchased the game. This decision both responds to player feedback and adds a new dimension to the pricing debate in the gaming industry.
The Outer Worlds 2 Players’ Voices Heard
The price reduction, announced in a humorous and in-universe announcement on Obsidian’s official social media accounts, was seen as a direct response to player complaints. In response to player complaints submitted via “skip drone,” Obsidian stated that the price reduction was “to show our support for all colonies.”
Users who purchased the game for $80 on Steam will automatically have their transactions canceled and will be re-billed for $70. Those who pre-ordered through Battle.net will have their orders canceled and refunded, and players will be required to re-purchase the game. Console users will be refunded the difference in price shortly.
This decision is seen as a significant step in addressing the recent backlash against game price increases. Industry giants had previously resorted to pricing above $70, citing rising development costs. However, the difficult economic climate has fueled consumer discontent with these increases.
Some major publishers, however, still prefer to avoid price increases. For example, EA announced last May that they would not raise game prices “for the time being.” This new pricing for The Outer Worlds 2 was both a morale boost for players and a significant step backward for the industry.
