The Outer Worlds 2 Will Be Much Larger and Fuller

The Outer Worlds, which offered players a different RPG experience with its first game, is now preparing to return with a much more ambitious sequel. Obsidian Entertainment announced that it promises both larger maps and deeper systems with the second game. Developed with the power of Unreal Engine 5, this new production aims to offer players a more personal experience in a wider universe.

The game’s art director Daniel Alpert said that this time, much larger areas will be explored instead of small centers and limited areas. The game, developed with Unreal Engine 5, will offer players plenty of side quests, loot, and points of interest as they go from point A to point B. This approach is a direct response to the criticisms of limited exploration in the first game.

Director Brandon Adler stated that they paid special attention to distant visual cues that would direct players to different paths during map design. Interesting structures that enter the field of view will encourage players to change their routes. It was also emphasized that these structures will not only look beautiful from a distance, but also that each one will offer different rewards, stories or content to the player when discovered.

One of the notable changes in the system design was the removal of character re-creation (respec). Lead system designer Kyle Koenig stated that players will now have to be more careful with each skill point distribution, and that this will make character customization meaningful. Instead of being good at all skills, specializing in certain areas becomes the basic philosophy of the second game.

The Outer Worlds 2 is also preparing to attract attention with a comprehensive stealth system. The game will be released for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. All eyes are on the big presentation to be held after the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. Obsidian is expected to share more details about the game in this presentation.
