Space Marine 2, developed by Saber Interactive, was released in 2024 and gave a great momentum to the Warhammer universe. Space Marine 2, which managed to reach 4.5 million players, held an important place in Games Workshop’s revenue from video games. Following this success, the company started preparations for a new Warhammer game.
Space Marine 2’s Success and Future Plans
Space Marine 2 attracted not only fans of the Warhammer universe, but also a wide audience interested in action games. The game reached millions of players by presenting the epic fight against the Tyranid threat with unique gameplay. The game, which received a “Strong” rating with an 86% recommendation rate on the OpenCritic platform by critics, managed to stay alive with Saber Interactive’s regular free updates.
Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree emphasized that successes like Space Marine 2 are not always guaranteed, and stated that they are looking for the next big project in the Warhammer universe. The company is carefully managing its expectations after the success of the game and continues to collaborate with different studios for new projects.
Games Workshop announced that it is working on Warhammer 40,000: Mechanics II as the next big game in the Warhammer universe. This turn-based tactics game developed by Bulwark Studios will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms. Although a release date has not been announced yet, fans are eagerly awaiting this game.
