Is The Witcher Movie on the way?

In more recent years, The Witcher has extended beyond books and video games, with Netflix producing a live-action series that will reportedly release its fourth season in 2025. Just like the games that helped pave the way for it, the live action Witcher show has spawned several spin-offs in the form of the animated prequel movie Nightmare of the Wolf, a four-episode live action miniseries titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, and an upcoming second animated film called The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, which will be released on Netflix on February 11, 2025.

Meanwhile, it looks like developer CDPR could be planning its own movie based on The Witcher. Recently, the developer posted a job listing for a writer/editor who would be tasked with writing scripts in English for comic books, TV, and movies. This listing calls for someone with experience writing movie scripts and knowledge of all CD Projekt IPs, including The Witcher and Cyberpunk. According to the job offer, this editor would be “responsible for the edition or co-creation of almost every comic book, children’s book, board game, and TV series that will go public and be seen by a world audience.”

What exactly these projects are remains unspecified in the job listing, but its emphasis on experience in writing film scripts seems to suggest that CDPR could be planning to use its in-house talents to produce a movie for one of its big IPs. Assuming this is the case, the potential movie in question could be some sort of tie in for The Witcher or Cyberpunk, as both properties have major projects in the works.

This movie could be live-action or animated, a prequel detailing one of Geralt of Rivia’s many monster-slaying adventures, or a sequel following Ciri or another major character in the Witcher universe. CD Projekt Red has seen success in the past with 2022’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and if this latest job listing is any indication, the studio could be aiming to replicate this with its even bigger Witcher franchise.
