There is No Gravity, There is Action Introducing Orbifold
Orbifold, a personal project of a developer from Hi-Rez Studios, brings a completely different perspective to the FPS genre. Inviting players to anti-gravity conflicts on the inner surface of a giant Dyson sphere, the game offers a three-dimensional battlefield instead of classic flat maps. Although the game is still in development, the prototype videos released reveal that the project is ambitious in both technical and visual terms.
Orbifold Traps Players Inside the Sphere
The most striking aspect of Orbifold is the spherical structure of the area where players roam. Fighting by gravitationally sticking to the inner walls of a giant sphere both disrupts the sense of direction and brings a fresh breath to the gameplay. Thanks to this artificial environment, players can move in every direction, not just right and left. This seriously changes tactical mobility. The concepts of taking cover or height advantage are completely redefined in the game.
The developer cites classic FPS games like Halo and sci-fi titles as sources of inspiration. However, Orbifold’s style is much more experimental than these games. The game, which has a simple yet impressive design, especially in terms of visuals, has already attracted the attention of many players in its current form. The gameplay includes basic elements such as collecting ammunition, defeating enemies, and navigating the spherical surface.
Early prototypes of Orbifold were shared on YouTube and the initial feedback from the community was quite positive. Despite the game being in a single-person development phase, the ideas it presents are at a level that would put commercial big-name productions to shame. Although the developer has not yet given a clear release date for the full version of the game, he states that the project is progressing slowly but steadily.
Orbifold, which brings a different perspective to the FPS genre, is currently a small team effort but looks set to make a big splash with its concept. It is a production that should be followed, especially for those interested in experimental games. Although the game is still in its early stages, it has potential in terms of its idea and presentation. Orbifold opens the door to a new universe for those looking for an unconventional FPS experience.
