Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Didn’t Meet Expectations
The new remake of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series was a source of great excitement for fans. Especially after the success of the 1+2 collection released in 2020, it was expected that 3+4 would receive the same level of attention. However, the post-launch situation is not encouraging. The low player count and mixed reviews on Steam suggest that this remake hasn’t met expectations.
Why Did Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Fail to Catch Up?
Released in 2020, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 quickly received positive reviews from both critics and players, selling over a million units in its first two weeks. However, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, the remake package of the 3rd and 4th games in the series, failed to replicate that success. According to SteamDB data, the game was the 23rd best-selling game on the platform in its first week of release, and user reviews are mixed.
One reason for the game’s low interest may be that it was also added to Xbox Game Pass on the same day. PC Game Pass subscribers can play the game directly from the cloud. This may have diminished the game’s appeal, which currently sells for $49.99 on Steam. Furthermore, considering Game Pass’s subscriber base of over 35 million, many players have shifted their preferences to other platforms.
Meanwhile, the game’s content has also sparked some controversy. Changes to Pro Skater 4’s career mode and the ongoing uncertainty about Bam Margera’s inclusion in the roster have negatively impacted player interest. Combined, these factors have led to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 falling well short of expectations.
Still, its visibility on Game Pass allows it to reach a wider audience. However, considering sales performance and user reviews, these results are not encouraging for the developers. This outlook could be critical for the series’ future.
