Trail Out Announces Open-World Sequel
Trail Out, a beloved example of the destruction-focused racing genre, has returned to the spotlight with a surprise announcement. Series developer Good Boys announced that they are working on a second installment after a three-year hiatus. Initial details revealed that the sequel will offer a remarkable experience with its open-world structure and online-focused innovations.
First Details of Trail Out 2
Trail Out attracted attention with its arcade-focused style, which embodies the spirit of the FlatOut series. Released on PC in 2023 and later ported to consoles, the game quickly gained a wide audience with its entertaining gameplay and destruction-based gameplay. Now, Trail Out 2 is poised to take the series to the next level with its completely rebuilt infrastructure and revamped physics engine.
Developer Good Boys confirmed that the new game will feature an open-world setting. This move will provide players with an experience where they can freely roam the vast maps, not just races. The addition of online modes will also address a significant gap in the series’ first installment. While details are still limited, online multiplayer is expected to be a key feature.
It was also announced that Trail Out 2 will be a long-term development process. The studio announced that it is seeking new level designers and 3D artists, indicating that the project is entering a comprehensive phase of development. While a release date of 2028 is set, the platform(s) for the game have not yet been announced. This sets fans up for a years-long wait.
The 5.0 update for the first game, released simultaneously with the announcement, also attracted attention. It added two new tracks set in Tokyo, three new vehicles, visual improvements, and a new combat-focused racing mode called “Dash.” The story mode has also been overhauled, making it more fluid. All of these innovations demonstrate the studio’s commitment to keeping the Trail Out brand alive for both existing players and the next generation.
