Ubisoft Announces New Ghost Recon Game

Fans of the Ghost Recon series will be excited by the arrival of a new development from Ubisoft. According to statements made at the company’s shareholder meeting, it was confirmed that a new first-person Ghost Recon game is in development. This game, currently in development, appears to offer a Call of Duty-style experience and represents one of the series’ biggest changes to date.

The Ghost Recon Series Takes a Brand New Direction

In his presentation to shareholders, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot cited the success of Rainbow Six Siege as an example, emphasizing that Ghost Recon will also be supported by live service-focused experiences. Guillemot stated that they aim to make strong progress in the market with new releases in major franchises like The Division and Ghost Recon. These statements clearly demonstrate Ubisoft’s intention to reshape the Ghost Recon series.

Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet announced that Tencent’s investments will be used for first-person shooters like Ghost Recon. He also stated that other live-service games like The Crew and For Honor will be strengthened within this framework. This demonstrates that Ghost Recon holds a significant place in the company’s long-term plans.

As previously reported by Insider Gaming, the new game is being developed under the codename “Project Ovr.” The game is reportedly set during the fictional Naiman War and played from a direct first-person perspective. The game, said to be inspired by the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, also emphasizes tactical gameplay. While footage has not yet been released, the experience is reportedly similar to “Ready or Not.”

Ghost Recon: Project Ovr is expected to enter internal alpha this year. Looking at the release schedule, the game is likely to launch towards the end of 2026, signaling the imminent arrival of a significant milestone in the series’ evolution.
