Ubisoft Files Lawsuit Against AC Shadows Team Over Harassment

As Ubisoft continues its preparations for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will be released in 3 days, it has taken action to take precautions against harassment against the development team. An anonymous Ubisoft employee who spoke to French media outlet BFMTV announced that the company has created an “anti-harassment plan” to combat online harassment. As part of the plan, social media platforms and content sharing sites are constantly monitored by a special team. While psychological and legal support is provided to developers, it was emphasized that lawyers are ready to file a lawsuit in cases of confirmed harassment.

Ubisoft’s Precautions for AC Shadows

Ubisoft, which left 2024 as its “worst year”, aims to recover with AC Shadows. However, the company predicts that criticism and harassment against developers may increase with the release of the game. For this reason, it has advised its employees not to share that they work at Ubisoft on social media.

“Our lawyers are prepared to file lawsuits in cases of confirmed harassment,” a Ubisoft employee said, indicating how serious the company is about this issue. However, these statements have raised questions about how harassment is defined. Concerns that criticism and trolling could also be considered harassment have sparked debate among players.

While some players see Ubisoft’s approach as a necessary step to protect the development team, others believe it could be a tactic to suppress criticism. There are concerns that if the company’s definition of “harassment” is broad, even innocent criticism could be subject to legal action.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is seen as a critical turning point for Ubisoft’s future. The game has brought with it both expectations and discussions ahead of its release. It is a matter of curiosity how the measures the company has taken to protect developers will have an impact, especially in online gaming communities. Ubisoft’s stance during this process could set an important precedent for both developers and players.
