Valve Puts SteamVR Headset into Mass Production
Valve is returning to the world of virtual reality. The company’s long-rumored new SteamVR headset has now entered mass production. According to a report by the China-based XR Research Institute, production of 400,000 to 600,000 units of the device, codenamed “Deckard,” has begun. Sources suggest the product will be commercially known as Valve Frame and will be released by the end of 2025.
Valve SteamVR Headset Codenamed Deckard in Production Line
According to leaked information, Valve has been testing its new virtual reality headset for a long time. Prominent insider Brad Lynch confirmed that the “Deckard DV1” and “DV2” models have appeared in the SteamVR Beta. According to Lynch, these models are precursors to the final version, which will be released to consumers. This is a strong indication that the product is in the final stages of development.
While no official pricing or technical details have yet been announced, the headset is expected to launch alongside new “Roy” controllers. These new controllers will incorporate design innovations learned from Valve’s previous VR experience, the Index, while offering more precise motion tracking and ergonomic improvements. The company’s goal is to provide a high-quality VR experience that appeals to both professional and home users.
Valve isn’t just working on SteamVR. Over the summer, the Valve Fremont, believed to be the company’s new console project, appeared on Geekbench. It was revealed to feature a six-core 3.2GHz processor, 8GB of DDR5 memory, and a custom AMD RX 7600 GPU. This hardware leak suggests Valve is pursuing a broader hardware strategy.
If all this information proves true, Valve will make a strong return to both the VR and portable gaming hardware markets within the same year. The company’s official announcement is expected before the end of the year. It appears that 2025 will mark the beginning of a new hardware era for Valve.
