Who Will Be DCU’s Clayface?
Preparations for DC Studios’ new horror film Clayface are rapidly progressing. Four candidates have emerged for the lead role in the production, which will be directed by James Watkins. Although no official announcement has been made yet, sources close to the project believe it is certain that one of these actors will portray the character Basil Karlo.
Four Candidates Have Come Forward for the Clayface Film
The four actors mentioned for the new Clayface film include George MacKay, Tom Blythe, Jack O’Connell, and Leo Woodall. Each of these names, who have recently appeared in prominent productions, have screen tested for the character Basil Karlo. MacKay, known for the film 1917, and the young star of The Hunger Games, Blythe, are at the top of the list. The production team expects one of these four candidates to land the role soon.
The director of the film will be James Watkins, known for Speak No Evil. Watkins’s commitment to the project was confirmed after his presentation to James Gunn in February. James Gunn is joined by Peter Safran and The Batman director Matt Reeves in the production team. The script belongs to Mike Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House. However, it was stated that Flanagan will not be taking on the directorial role.
Clayface will be released in 2026 and will take place under the DCU umbrella. The film will tell the terrifying transformation of a former B-movie actor who injects himself with an unknown substance to keep himself young and popular. The story will tell the story of the character gaining the ability to physically change shape and turning into walking clay. According to sources, the film will have an atmosphere similar to David Cronenberg’s body horror genre such as The Fly and The Substance.
Shooting is planned to take place in different locations such as Vancouver, Toronto, New Jersey and Atlanta. It is not yet clear who will fill the role, but an announcement is expected to be made shortly.
