Why Were Doomsday and Secret Wars Delayed?
Marvel Studios surprised fans by moving Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars forward by about eight months. Doomsday was postponed from May 1, 2026 to December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars was postponed from May 7, 2027 to December 17, 2027. So what was the real reason behind this decision?
Doomsday and Secret Wars are Giant Projects
According to the information shared by Deadline, the main reason for the postponement of these two films is to allow more time for the production process. In the statements from Marvel, the expressions, “These two films are among the biggest productions ever made, and more time is needed for this vision to come to life completely,” are included.
The decision to move the films from May, which is traditionally included in the Marvel calendar, to December is entirely strategic. It is stated that Disney and Marvel were encouraged by the box office success of productions such as Spider-Man: No Way Home during the year-end period. Similarly, Star Wars, Avatar and even DC’s Aquaman were released in December and grossed over a billion dollars. It is understood that Marvel wants to turn the new Avengers films into a year-end “cinema event” in this way.
Marvel, which has recently received mixed reviews with projects such as Quantumania and Brave New World, wants to proceed more cautiously and detail-oriented in order to recapture the magic of the post-Endgame period. This postponement is interpreted as an indication that the focus is on quality rather than a rushed production.
Kevin Feige’s approach is seen as the message “We are not cutting corners”. If heavyweights such as the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. can meet expectations in their return, these two films could be Marvel’s biggest comeback since the period that started with Iron Man.
With a star-studded cast, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are set to take their place not only in the cinematic universe but also in pop culture history. While it’s been tough to wait, it looks like Marvel is holding their own this time.
