Witcher 4 Should Take Place in a Brand New Realm
CD Projekt Red is preparing for a major change with the new installment of The Witcher series. With the first trailer released at the 2024 Game Awards, Witcher 4 officially announced that it will retire Geralt and bring Ciri to the lead role. This change, which will bring a new breath to the series, signals that the region where the game takes place may also change. The first trailer and developer comments show that players will step into a completely different land.
The Witcher 4 Extends Ciri’s Adventure to the North
According to the developers, the village called Stromford seen in the trailer is “an isolated, northern village.” This information reveals that going to Cintra, which many fans are expecting, is not very possible. Cintra is Ciri’s hometown and has an important place in the books, but it is located in the south of the map. CD Projekt Red’s statements, on the contrary, indicate that more northern regions will be explored.
In the north of the Witcher universe, we have only seen Kaer Morhen. However, further north on the map, there are regions such as Kovir and Poviss, whose stories are little known. These regions provide the perfect backdrop for narratives intertwined with both political turmoil and magic. Events such as Kovir King Tancred Thyssen helping the sorcerers in particular could create rich backgrounds for the new game.
The Far North, located beyond Kovir and Poviss, is one of the strongest candidates for the game to take place. This wild geography, which includes regions such as Dragon Mountains, Velhad and Vespaden, is quite rich in terms of monster populations. This provides the perfect opportunity to show players how much Ciri has developed as a Witcher.
The fact that we have not seen dragons in the series for a long time also makes Far North more appealing. Ciri’s encounters with dragons could create deep scenes in terms of both combat and ethics. In addition, the return of characters such as Saskia, whom we met in The Witcher 2, could add both nostalgic and story richness.
CD Projekt Red’s use of new regions in every Witcher game so far may be a sign that we will explore unusual places in Witcher 4. Starting the first episode in the Far North and then extending to regions with strong personal ties such as Cintra could make Ciri’s journey both emotionally and physically meaningful.
As fans of the series, our only wish is that Witcher 4 will present us with previously unvisited parts of the map. If CD Projekt Red includes unexplored lands in the story as expected, players will embark on an unforgettable adventure in this new era.
