The Yakuza series has captivated gamers for years with its story and gameplay. However, this time, the hot topic is the highly anticipated new version of Yakuza Kiwami 3. The first footage released of the game’s fighting mechanics quickly impressed fans and hinted at how expectations will evolve.
Yakuza Kiwami 3’s Fighting Mechanics Spark Excitement
Developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, Yakuza Kiwami 3 first released for PlayStation 3 in 2009. Now, it’s back with updated visuals and additional content. One of the most striking aspects of this new version is the refinements made to the fighting system. The teaser trailer highlighted the classic Yakuza style while maintaining its modernized details.
The shared images combine Kazuma Kiryu’s fast and fluid movements with next-generation visuals. From punches and combos to environmental interactions and special finishing scenes, many details appear to have been adapted to current gaming standards. These innovations prove that the game is not just a nostalgic remake, but also aims to bring the series to a new generation of players.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 also includes a new story chapter called “Dark Ties.” This additional content focuses on the character Yoshitaka Mine, familiar to fans of the series. Both scenes enriching the main story and additional cinematics further expand the game’s scope, offering a fresh experience for longtime fans and a strong entry point for new players.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, which will be released for Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Switch 2, will be available in both digital and physical versions on February 12, 2026. Before that, the previous games in the series, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, will be coming to Switch 2 in November of this year. All of this planning clearly demonstrates Sega’s goal of bringing the series to a wider audience on new platforms.
