Yasuke Loses Her Abilities in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Ubisoft’s new game Assassin’s Creed Shadows is preparing to surprise players with two different hero mechanics. One of the main characters of the game, Yasuke, has been deprived of the classic assassin abilities of the series. Yasuke will not be an assassin, but rather a samurai with his heavy armor. This creates a clear contrast with the fast and stealth-oriented gameplay of the game’s other main character, Naoe. The game’s director, Simon Lemay-Comtois, stated that Yasuke’s difference will play an important role in the storytelling.
Why Are Yasuke’s Abilities Limited in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
According to the producers’ statements, Yasuke not being an assassin is a completely story-focused choice. Ubisoft thinks that making Yasuke an assassin will weaken his “outsider” position in the story. For this reason, Yasuke will not have access to abilities such as Eagle Vision. Even the Leap of Faith, which has become a symbol of the series, is presented in a very different way for Yasuke. Players will see Yasuke fall awkwardly to the ground in pain when he attempts the Leap of Faith move. This small detail is designed as a humorous touch that goes well with the character’s armor and physique.
Ubisoft created a two-hero structure for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Naoe was designed as a fast and stealth-oriented character with classic assassin abilities. On the other hand, Yasuke offers a slower, slower-moving and combat-oriented gameplay style. This difference will give players the opportunity to have two different experiences. Lemay-Comtois explained, “Yasuke’s not being an assassin allows players to approach both characters differently.”
Assassin’s Creed Shadows aims to offer players variety thanks to the different mechanics of Yasuke and Naoe. Yasuke’s lack of abilities makes his search for identity and his story as an outcast samurai more impressive. This allows the game to gain a different dynamic from other Assassin’s Creed games.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has sparked great curiosity among fans of the series with this innovative approach. Yasuke’s lack of abilities seems to deepen his character development and the game’s storytelling. Players will have the chance to discover this different experience in 2025.
