85% of Soldiers Say They Feel Relaxed After Playing Games
A new study from the US has shown that gaming is an important way for many people to relax during their military service. 85% of soldiers who play games while on active duty said that this activity provides them with a break from stressful conditions. The results clearly show how games play a role in mental resilience.
Games Also Strengthen Solidarity Among Soldiers
A survey conducted by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) with a group of participants consisting of 1,096 veterans and 508 civilians shared some remarkable data. 86% of participants stated that video games provide a healthy way to cope with stress and anxiety. At the same time, 81% said that games provide important support in getting through difficult times.
The rate of those who think that games continue to have positive effects on their lives after military service is 77%. In addition, the rate of soldiers who say they play games with others every week has reached 79%. 58% of these players stated that they still play online games with their friends from their military service. This result shows that games are functional not only individually but also in terms of social support.
The survey also showed that games are a means of bonding between soldiers serving together. 78% of the participants stated that playing games together strengthens team spirit, while 73% emphasized that it increases cooperation and coordination. The rate of those who play online games with their friends at home during duty was measured as 56% and the rate of those who play with their families was measured as 44%.
One of the striking parts of the survey was which genres are preferred the most. While 55% of the former soldiers stated that they play shooter games the most, RPG/MMO genres were preferred by 39% and sports games by 31%. The most popular games included Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, EA Sports FC and Fortnite. Stephen Machuga, director of the non-profit organization Stack Up, emphasized the importance of such support by drawing attention to the contribution of games to mental health.
