Activision’s Ban on 20,000 Cheaters Draws Backlash
Activision announced that it has banned 20,000 accounts that cheated in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The company announced that it has taken new protection measures against cheaters with the Ricochet anti-cheat system it developed. However, the player community did not find this step sufficient and reacted. Many players argued that cheaters quickly opened new accounts and returned, and that these bans did not solve the problem.
Players Criticize Activision’s Step
According to Activision’s statement, the banned accounts were blocked for “cheating and disrupting the game balance.” However, players think that this number is quite low compared to the actual number of cheaters in the game.
In the comments made on social media, one user criticized Activision’s efforts by saying, “If 20,000 cheaters were banned, I’m sure they all returned with a new account within 30 minutes.” Another player said, “These kinds of announcements are made every year, but the game is still in the same state.”
The company announced that it will add more server infrastructure and new layers of protection to strengthen its Ricochet anti-cheat system. It also plans to improve game performance with a completely redesigned server system by 2025. However, players are concerned that these promises will be no different than past promises of improvements.
The Call of Duty community argues that the cheating problem is still a major crisis and that Activision needs to develop more effective methods. The prevalence of cheaters, especially in cross-platform competitive modes, continues to be a major problem for both casual players and content creators. Whether or not Activision’s steps will be effective will be revealed in the coming days.
While players are waiting for more permanent solutions, only time will tell how effective Activision’s steps will be against cheaters.
