The company has published a user guide for running DeepSeek R1 on consumer hardware such as Ryzen AI processors and Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards. This new version of DeepSeek stands out with its superior processing efficiency and optimized performance. AMD’s guide allows users to easily run this powerful AI model on their local devices, opening the door to a new era in AI applications.
AMD’s Innovations for DeepSeek R1
DeepSeek R1 was initially trained on a massive cluster of Nvidia’s H800 GPUs. However, the AMD-optimized version has now been scaled down enough to run on consumer hardware. AMD’s guide simplifies installation for Ryzen AI processors with a one-click installation tool called LM Studio. Users can also optimize DeepSeek with Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards and XDNA NPUs.
Supported hardware models vary according to their VRAM capacities. For example, models such as the Radeon RX 7600 XT and 7800 XT can run the “DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen-14B” version, while high-end models such as the RX 7900 XTX support the “DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen-32B” version. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor allows larger models such as “DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Llama-70B” to be run with 128 GB of RAM.
DeepSeek has made a big impact in the industry by reducing the processing cost of AI models by 11 times. AMD’s support for this model in its hardware could enable users to turn to affordable alternatives instead of high-cost solutions like Nvidia.
