Avatar 4 May Come with a Time Jump and a New Story
The Avatar series continues to expand the world of Pandora with each film. However, instead of directly continuing the previous films, Avatar 4 may shift to a different story period. Statements from Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, who plays the character Tuk, suggest that this new film, with its time jump, will open up a broader narrative in terms of characters and the Pandora ecosystem.
Avatar 4 Could Be the Beginning of a New Era
Trinity Jo-Li Bliss stated that a small portion of Avatar 4 was filmed earlier, and this part takes place before the major time jump. According to the actress, this time jump will not only change the ages of the characters but also expand the different regions of Pandora, their ecosystems, and the overall direction of the story. This means that the fourth film could open a new chapter in the series.
Bliss states that Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash are essentially considered parts of the same larger story, while Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 will be entirely new chapters. This suggests that James Cameron’s long-term plan is still focused on building a larger narrative. Therefore, the fourth film could be positioned not just as “the next adventure,” but as the beginning of a different era.
However, the future of Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 is still not entirely guaranteed. While Avatar: Fire and Ash had a strong box office performance, it fell short of the massive success of the previous two films, leading to speculation that Disney wants to proceed more cautiously with sequels. The expectation of shorter, lower-budget films, and how this will balance with Cameron’s vision, remains unclear for now.
Currently, Avatar 4’s previously announced release date is December 21, 2029. The fact that some parts of the film have already been shot is promising, but the final timeline of the project may change depending on budget, production time, and Disney’s strategy. However, if Bliss’s account holds true, Avatar 4 may be preparing to show Pandora in its most unique form to date.
