Black Ops 7 Beta Fails in First 24 Hours
Black Ops 7 is in the spotlight with its beta, held weeks before its release. However, player numbers in the first 24 hours fell well short of expectations. Following the massive success of the Battlefield 6 beta, all eyes were on the Call of Duty franchise, but the results weren’t looking promising.
Black Ops 7 Beta Player Numbers Disappointing
Data from the first day shows that the Black Ops 7 beta reached only 74,698 players on SteamDB. This number is considered low for a major franchise like Call of Duty. Furthermore, this figure doesn’t represent all Black Ops 7 players; since it’s measured through the Call of Duty Hub, players from other franchises may also be included.
Early access was available only to pre-orderers and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers from October 2nd to 5th. Despite the large number of invite codes distributed, player interest remained low, calling the series’ appeal into question. While numbers are expected to increase during the open beta period, the first-day performance has already raised questions.
Yale Miller, a senior executive at series developer Treyarch, recently acknowledged that the successive releases of Black Ops games could lead to “franchise fatigue.” This is cited as a significant factor in the decline in player interest.
Activision, however, has taken some steps to mitigate the backlash. Pre-order skins have been modified and it has been announced that the game will not support the “Carry Forward” system. This means that content from previous games will not be used in the new installment. However, the impact of these moves on players appears to have been limited.
Black Ops 7 will launch on November 14th. Player interest during the open beta period will provide clearer insights into the game’s launch performance. However, initial data suggests that the Call of Duty brand is no longer as strong as it once was.
