Controversial Game Ready Or Not Coming To Console
Ready Or Not has been known for years as a controversial tactical shooter that could only be played on PC. Now, VOID Interactive has announced that the game will be entering the console market with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions. What is surprising is that this decision was made despite the game’s harsh and sensitive themes. Cross-play support will also be offered between platforms.
Ready Or Not Coming to Consoles Under the Shadow of Controversy
Ready Or Not has created great controversy in the gaming world since it was released for early access in December 2021. The game, which draws attention as a SWAT-themed production, handles tasks such as neutralizing criminals, rescuing hostages, and securing a crime scene in a very realistic way. However, this realism has also been on the agenda with scenes that push ethical boundaries from time to time.
One of the most criticized aspects of the game was the mission called “Elephant”, which takes place on a university campus. In this mission, players encounter details inspired by the Columbine massacre while trying to neutralize an active attacker. In fact, the mission name and environments contain elements that reference this tragic event. VOID Interactive did not deny that they included these scenes on purpose, and it caused a huge division in the gaming community.
Australia removed Ready Or Not from Steam due to some of the missions in the game. Although the official reason was not clearly explained, it is thought that the missions dealing with themes of child abuse and human trafficking were influential in this decision. Despite this, the game quickly climbed to the top of the Steam sales and became an alternative for players who were not satisfied with Rainbow Six: Siege.
It is a matter of curiosity how Ready Or Not will be received with the console ports. While the tactical gameplay was designed for keyboard and mouse users, how this experience will be transferred to the gamepad will be a significant test. Similar hardcore titles like ARMA Reforger and Six Days in Fallujah can be taken as examples of console transitions, but the fact that such content reaches a wider player base can also bring new discussions.
