Cronos’ Future Looks Bright

Looks like Cronos: The New Dawn will turn into a multi-faceted IP in the coming years, per the recent comments of developer Bloober Team.

The Future of Cronos

With several noteworthy releases such as the Layers of Fear games and the Silent Hill 2 remake under its belt, Bloober Team has accumulated lots of valuable experience in the horror genre. Although its expert handling of the Konami IP has been its main source of praise recently, the developer is certainly no stranger to successfully establishing original works as well. Thanks to Cronos: The New Dawn’s launch, Bloober Team now has another survival horror brand in its portfolio to leverage going ahead, and it appears that might be exactly what the studio plans to do.

Cronos' Future Looks Bright

In an investor Q&A (via Stockwatch), Bloober Team’s management said that, even though Cronos: The New Dawn’s devs were currently tackling a different project, the studio “definitely” intends to revisit the IP in the future and expand it “across many areas of exploitation.” As for potential DLCs for the third-person title, the developer shared that the team wasn’t working on such an undertaking at the moment but doesn’t “rule it out in the future.” When asked about the chances of a collaboration between its Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team gave an indirect reply, saying that it is “planning various cross-promotional activities.” Moreover, in a separate answer, the Polish developer revealed “a number of marketing activities” involving Cronos were being discussed, including for the Halloween season.

Talking about the financial prospects, Bloober Team showed firm confidence in Cronos: The New Dawn’s potential, saying that it expects to collect “significant profits” from the recently released project. The studio further described the game’s launch as “a huge success” and said that the horror title “will pay off in the future,” not just generating profits but also strengthening Bloober Team’s position in the market. It was also noted that Cronos’s console sales were outperforming the PC counterpart, with Steam sales making up only “about 25%” of the copies sold. It’s worth noting here that this percentage apparently leaves out the game’s sales on Epic Games Store and GOG, suggesting they could be even lower.

For those who enjoyed Cronos: The New Dawn’s offerings, Bloober Team’s positive outlook on the IP’s future is certainly reassuring. The statement about the studio exploring many areas of exploitation may also be seen as a nod towards plans for a possible adaptation of the game. However, given that the main team behind Cronos is committed to another project right now, it may be long before fans see an update on future projects under the new brand.
