Crossplay Announcement Released for Elder Scrolls Online
Elder Scrolls Online, which has become one of the important names in the MMORPG genre, has been facing the same question that has been on the minds of players for years: “When is crossplay coming?” The game can be played on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms, but cross-platform interaction is still not possible. While players are waiting to play with their friends on different systems, a promising statement came from the production team.
Crossplay is Possible for Elder Scrolls Online, But It’s Not Easy
Speaking to Kinda Funny Games, game director Rich Lambert and studio director Matt Firor explained that the subject of crossplay has been on their agenda for a long time and that they have been working on infrastructure changes. Firor said, “When we started making this game in 2007, there weren’t even two platforms in mind, now we’re close to six. We know how important this feature is,” and drew attention to the difficulty of the process.
Firor also noted that Microsoft’s “everything Xbox” approach has made things easier on non-technical issues, especially in terms of licensing and cross-platform agreements. This means that some of the obstacles to crossplay can be overcome.
However, the technical challenges remain significant. Lambert said, “It’s really hard,” emphasizing that integrating crossplay into the game is a more complicated task than he thought. Despite all these challenges, the team is determined to bring this feature to life in order to meet player expectations.
Although no official date has been given yet, the statements made indicate that cross-platform play for Elder Scrolls Online is not completely ruled out. The doors for crossplay are open, and the possibility of this feature becoming a reality in the future is higher than ever.
