Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be Cross Progression Compatible on Switch 2
CD Projekt RED has revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have cross progression on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Cross Progression for Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077’s initial release in December 2020 was nothing short of a disaster, but CD Projekt RED has dedicated the time and resources in the years since to deliver on its pre-launch promises. Nowadays, the game is completely unrecognizable from what was first launched, offering an awesome experience in Night City. Cyberpunk 2077’s Switch 2 port was recently confirmed on the April 2 Nintendo Direct, with the title being a great showcase of the hardware capabilities of Nintendo’s upcoming platform.
In a series of posts on X, Cyberpunk 2077 has confirmed a few crucial details about the Switch 2 port of the game. First, cross-progression saving will be available for Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2, allowing players to continue their saves from other platforms and vice versa. In terms of performance, CD Projekt RED is aiming for 1080p while docked and 720p while playing in handheld mode, while looking to reach 30–40 FPS at all times.
The post does clarify that the studio is “still improving the performance,” so it remains to be seen whether it will reach these performance goals. The graphical performance of the Switch 2 may come as a disappointment to some, specifically regarding Cyberpunk 2077. Despite the stunning graphical fidelity of the title, it will come as a surprise to some that any 2020 title will run at 720p on a new console in 2025.
With the development of The Witcher 4 now in full swing, it could be a while before players get their first taste of a new Cyberpunk title. It’s not all bad news, though. CD Projekt RED recently ramped up its hiring, with work still ongoing on Project Orion, the game that will eventually become the Cyberpunk sequel. Even if it takes a while for a new Cyberpunk game, it will hopefully be worth the wait.
