DLC Discounts Removed for Xbox Game Pass Members
Microsoft has quietly eliminated a long-standing advantage in its Xbox Game Pass service. Subscribers will no longer receive the same 10% discount on downloadable content (DLC) for games. This change caused confusion among players, and the company announced the introduction of a new reward points system instead.
Xbox Game Pass Replaces DLC Discounts with a Points System
Previously, Game Pass subscribers could earn up to 10% discounts on DLC and add-ons for games in the library. However, with the latest update, this advantage has been completely removed. Initially noticed through Call of Duty Points, the change quickly spread to major titles like Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Forza Horizon 5.
According to a statement from Microsoft, Premium members will now earn 5% points on DLC purchases, while Ultimate members will earn 10%. These points can be redeemed through the Microsoft Store later. Ultimate subscribers will also retain their 20% discount on select games in the library.
With the new system, Microsoft aims to reduce the risk of losses with one-time discounts while also retaining users within its ecosystem. The points system encourages players to re-spend their money within the Store.
Gamers, however, have not been particularly pleased with this change. For years, DLC discounts were considered one of the attractive benefits of Game Pass. Microsoft’s decision, combined with recent significant price increases and restrictions on benefits, has further fueled backlash among subscribers.
