Don’t Expect DLC from The Witcher 4
The Witcher 4 is central to CD Projekt Red’s plans to revamp the series. However, for players who loved The Witcher 3’s unforgettable expansions like Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the new trilogy might take a slightly different approach. According to the company’s recent statements, expecting major DLC or expansion packs for The Witcher 4 doesn’t seem very realistic at this stage.
The Witcher 4 Will Focus on the New Trilogy Plan
Speaking at CD Projekt Red’s recent financial meeting, co-CEO Michal Nowakowski stated that the studio is aiming for a highly ambitious timeline for The Witcher series. According to the plan, the company wants to complete the new Witcher trilogy within a six-year period. This goal necessitates that the fifth and sixth games follow The Witcher 4 with relatively short intervals between them.
Nowakowski has made it clear that adding expansion packs to the new trilogy within such a timeframe would be quite difficult. This statement suggests that the likelihood of major DLC is low, not only for The Witcher 4, but possibly also for The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6. The studio seems to prefer focusing on the development of the main games rather than producing additional content. This could be disappointing for some players, as The Witcher 3’s expansion packs are remembered not just as additional content, but as powerful RPG experiences in their own right. Blood and Wine, in particular, was an adventure that approached, and in some aspects even surpassed, the main game for many players. Therefore, the possibility of The Witcher 4 not receiving similar support is naturally upsetting.
On the other hand, CD Projekt Red’s aim might be to offer more regular new Witcher games instead of keeping players waiting for years with expansions for a single game. Furthermore, the release of the new The Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past, in 2027 could serve as a final farewell to the Geralt era. The Witcher 4 will mark the beginning of a new era focused on Ciri, and it seems the studio is relying more on the pace of the main trilogy than on DLC this time.
