New DOOM Game, DOOM: The Dark Ages to be revealed at Xbox Games Showcase
Last year, the first details emerged that the next game in the DOOM series was described as a “medieval-inspired DOOM world”. Hints such as “year zero”, “dark ages” and “medieval influences” paint an exciting picture of the future of the series. Perhaps this new game will be a prequel of sorts, offering an earlier look at Doomslayer’s life in medieval times.
Earlier this year, rumors of a new DOOM game began circulating again after Bethesda re-registered the “IDKFA” trademark, a well-known cheat code in the series. Last month, The Verge’s Tom Warren first reported that DOOM would be revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase, and that rumor can now be independently confirmed.
The DOOM series has been a tremendous success for Xbox and ID Software. According to an ID Software employee on LinkedIn in 2020, the game generated over $450 million in revenue. This success has raised expectations for the next game in the series, “DOOM: The Dark Ages” is raising expectations even higher.
