Dragon Age: The Last Court Saved by a Fan
With BioWare’s former glory now largely gone, Dragon Age fans have received some rare news that will bring joy. Dragon Age: The Last Court, the text-based game quietly shut down by EA years ago, has been resurrected and rebuilt by a fan. Now you can play this unique creation online, download it to your computer, and experience it offline.
Dragon Age: The Last Court Has Become Playable Again
Dragon Age: The Last Court, released in 2014 as a text-based adventure game set before the events of “Inquisition.” Players take on the role of a Serault Marquis in the kingdom of Orlais, struggling to balance diplomacy, secrets, intrigue, and political interests. The character’s backstory and personality are entirely shaped by the player; every decision directly impacts the story’s flow.
However, in 2020, EA shut down the game’s servers, making The Last Court inaccessible. Many fans were deeply disappointed by the game’s literary language and its connections to Dragon Age: Inquisition. Fortunately, Reddit user Eglwyswrw managed to recover the game’s original text and code and restore it to working order. The game is now available for free on Itch.io and even works offline with a save system when downloaded to PC.
This fan-made version preserves all the original game’s content. Players can re-immerse themselves in the political landscape of Orlais, collecting secrets, loot, and achievements to impress Divine Justinia V. The game even saves every decision and dialogue choice, allowing for long-term progression.
Eglwyswrw’s completion of this project was met with great praise within the Dragon Age community. For those who came to know and love the series during the Inquisition era, The Last Court offers a unique window into the aristocratic world of Thedas. Many fans find the game’s literary style and atmosphere even stronger than BioWare’s modern work. While BioWare may have lost its former spirit these days, the Dragon Age universe lives on thanks to the passion of its fans.
