Eddie Murphy Talks About His New Shrek Project
Eddie Murphy, the beloved voice of the Shrek series, confirmed two major projects related to the Shrek universe during a promotion for his new film, The Pickup: recording is still underway for Shrek 5, and a standalone film focusing on Donkey is on the way. Murphy stated that the entire cast is currently working on voice work, while recording Donkey’s own story will begin in September.
Shrek and Donkey Return to the Same Universe, Different Stories
According to Eddie Murphy, the voice casting process for Shrek 5 is still underway. The project, which also includes Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Zendaya as the new character, Murphy stated, “We’re still in the recording studio and working on Shrek,” adding that production is not yet complete.
Meanwhile, plans for Donkey’s own film have been finalized. Murphy stated, “We’re starting work on the Donkey film in September. This will be its own film, just like Puss in Boots,” emphasizing that the project will be an independent film.
The film will explore Donkey’s relationship with his dragon wife and his life with his half-donkey, half-dragon children. Murphy stated that the story is quite entertaining and will introduce a new side to the character. The release date for this film is scheduled for three years from now, while Shrek 5 is expected to be completed within two years.
This new story, centered around Donkey, aims to continue expanding the Shrek universe while introducing audiences to beloved characters with new dynamics. The adventures of the “Dronkey” family and Donkey’s relationship with his dragon wife could offer a new perspective on the series.
